Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a photocopy of Confederate soldier A. C. Lenert's memorandum book and a typed transcript of the page narrative. Covering the years 1861-1863, the 20-page handwitten book includes Lenert's description of Waul's Texas Legion in the battle of Vicksburg, May-June, 1863. This is a daily log of the shelling, artillery attacks, and the intensity of fighting, as well as a record of cuts in rations for soldiers as the siege continues.
