Scope and Contents
The Black Tie Dinner Collection contains videos and photographs from the DFW Black Tie Dinner events. Through the collection the history of the organization and those it affected can be seen. It is a compilation of event invitations, Black Tie Dinner journals from the events, media housing recordings and photographs from the events, and correspondence between board members and those involved in organizing the Black Tie Dinners. In the collection are Betacam, DVCAM, and VHS tapes. On the tapes are recordings of audio and video from the Black Tie Dinner events as well as pre-recorded videos that were meant to be shown during the dinner. There are also DVDs and CDs containing videos made by the board and sponsors, videos made for the beneficiaries of the events, videos of the live event, and photographs. Printed photographs of the Board of Directors, guests, and past invitations and journals are in the collection along with the documents and certificates from the beginning of the organization, meeting agendas, invitations, and correspondence. There is also a nearly complete run of program journals from the Black Tie Dinner. Each journal features photographs, speeches, and information about sponsors, the board members, and award recipients. Some of the journals have duplicates in other UNT collections, which have been digitized seperately. That information is included with the journal information in this finding aid.

Biographical or Historical Information
The Dallas Dinner Committee began in 1982 as a group of friends seeking to raise money for the Human Rights Campaign Fund. Soon after, in 1990, it had developed into the annual DFW Black Tie Dinner. By this point it had expanded to raise money and support for contemporary LGBTQ issues and organizations; new beneficiaries are chosen each year in addition to the Human Rights Campaign Fund, which is now known as the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. During the event there is live and pre-recorded entertainment, awards, and speeches from the honorees and keynote speakers. There are also silent auctions and prizes given out for fundraising purposes. Since 1982 the fundraising dinner, and the community support it receives, has grown exponentially from a few thousand dollars raised to over a million raised each year.
