Scope and Contents

This collection contains the photographic work of Richard Doherty from the 1970s to present day. Included are Images of the people of Jefferson Boulevard and Oak Cliff in Dallas, Chicago, Fayetteville, Arkansas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which document the lives and places known to the photographer throughout his career. Photographs of residential areas such as streets, stores, apartments, and neighborhoods form the bulk of the collection, urging the viewer to take a deeper look into everyday architecture and surroundings as seen through the photographer’s perspective. The collection is arranged by date, size and subject matter. Materials include black and white photographs, color photographs, exhibit images, negatives, slides, publications and papers.

Arrangement Note

This collection is arranged into 5 series levels. Series 1: Photographs is arranged by size and subject matter. Series 2: Negatives is arranged into negatives in a binder, followed by 8x10 negatives and then a 4x5 negative series. Series 3: Publications is arranged by publication type and date. Series 4: Papers is arranged by subject and date. Series 5: Artifacts is arranged according to three-dimensional item types.
