Biographical or Historical Information
The Texas Stonewall Democratic Caucus has a connection with the larger group, the National Stonewall Democrats, as well as the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas. Al Daniels was the treasurer (1999-2010) for this organization which represents the LGBT community through its meetings, conferences and lobbying before local and state governments. The group networks through various LGBT-related functions and through meetings with the Democratic Party, which it is affiliated with. The Stonewall name comes from events which happened at the Stonewall Inn during June 27th, 1969 in New York. Stonewall is considered to be the beginning of the LGBT civil rights movement in the United States and the group’s name is reflective of this.
