Biographical or Historical Information

The Eagle Pass Guide was a local newspaper of Eagle Pass, Texas, a southern city along the Rio Grande River. First published in 1888, the paper covered both local and regional news relevant to its location in southwest Texas along the border with Mexico. Copies of the paper are rare. It is likely these are the only copies of this particular run of the paper in existence, including any microfilm. Joseph Boehmer (1870-1919) served as editor and publisher of the paper during the predominant dates listed. He was born in San Antonio and worked in printing and news publications for the majority of his career. He also served in the Texas legislature from 1912 to 1914. This collection was originally housed in his estate. In addition to the newspaper content, materials on his second wife Annie Murray, his two sisters M. Jourdin and Jenny R. Gildea, and their families are included in this collection.
