Scope and Contents

The Mike Anglin collection contains papers of the Lesbian and Gay Rights Lobby of Texas and Oak Lawn Community Services, along with photographs of individuals and video. The papers include Harvey Milk envelopes and stamps, Don't Ask, Don't Tell information, an e-mail from Julie Hollar discussing upcoming lobby efforts, a March on Austin brochure, legislative agenda for the 77th session of Texas legislature, House Bill no. 363 and House Bill No. 938. Oak Lawn Community Services includes a Ryan White grant application, minority outreach services for HIV education, OASIS program funding application, OLCS programs and services, Americorps, Committee for Creating Change and correspondence from Julie Cannon regarding Dialogue results. Photographs include images of William Waybourn, Mike Anglin, John Thomas, Bruce Monroe, Jean Nelson, Bill Nelson, Terry Tebedo, John Thomas' parents, Harvey Fierstein, Ken Flanagan, Craig Spaulding, Rick Garlington, Rick Munch, Ken Harlow, Andy Hanson and a section of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Finding Our Voice and After Goodbye are included in both VHS and digital versions. T-shirts from the Lone Star Ride and Tanqueray's Texas AIDS Ride are included with artifacts.

Biographical or Historical Information

Mike Anglin has been an activist with LGBT organizations since the early 1980s. As far back as the Dallas Gay Political Caucus and Dallas Gay Alliance (now known as the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance), Mr. Anglin was part of a group of friends that included Bill Nelson, Terry Tebedo, William Waybourn, Mike Richards, John Thomas and Ray Kuchling. In 2014, Mike Anglin won the Ray Kuchling Humanitarian Award and he was honored at the Black Tie Dinner for his work in the community. He is on the Board of Directors for the Dallas Way and has been instrumental in the preservation of Dallas LGBT history.
