This collection contains the following: an overall program design; management planning and research coordination; reports and notes from the Community Development Technical Review Committee and Subcommittee, Community Development Advisory Committee, and other meetings covering restructuring, new appointments and initial developments; Housing and Urban Development Projects and Housing grants from 1969-1980; Planning and Development proposals from local, state and regional planning, and plans from Albuquerque Metropolitan Transportation, Comprehensive Health, Tarrant County, Brazos River Authority Water Quality Management, Manpower, Texas Outdoor Recreation, Agriculture Conservation, Dallas Housing, and Energy Research and Development; Reports, developments and surveys about the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, air quality control, aerial photography, zoning, solid waste, potential open space, and urban area water; Agendas from the Preferred Regional Development Policy Task Force, Common Planning Standards Task Force, the Short Course Task Force, Comprehensive Planning Task Force, and the Community Involvement Task Force; materials from conferences, workshops, retreats, meetings, also including speeches, directories, and correspondence from Robert L. Biographical or Historical Information

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), currently based in Arlington, Texas, was established in 1966. It is "a voluntary association of, by and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development. NCTCOG's purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and make joint decisions. NCTCOG serves a 16-county region of North Central Texas, which is centered around the two urban centers of Dallas and Fort Worth. NCTCOG has over 230 member governments including 16 counties, numerous cities, school districts, and special districts" ("About NCTCOG," http://www.nctcog.org/about).

Abstract

The collection contains records from North Central Texas Council of Government Planning Group, established in 1966, and was intended to aide local governments to improve their means to serve their citizens by identifying and outlining regional issues, problems and opportunities, setting priorities and creating policies, plans and programs to deal with them and by achieving effective action on area wide matters through coordination, communication, and cooperation.

Arrangement Note

The papers are arranged into three series. Series 1 has been further arranged into 15 sub-series. All contents under each sub-series has been arranged chronologically, then alphabetically, as needed. Boxes 1-20 are in the RCL; map case items are in the Library Annex; and the rolls are located at the RCL.
